ORGANIST OR PIANIST, AND CHOIR DIRECTOR

Holy Trinity has one Sunday Choral Eucharist service. The Organist/ Music Director, working with the Priest, is responsible for the musical aspects of worship for this service. 

Position:  Organist or Pianist / Choir Director.  (We are willing to discuss options to staff these positions; for example a pianist and a separate choir director).

Primary Functions: To provide organ and/or piano music for our Choral Eucharist worship service at 10:00 am Sunday. To lead and direct the church choir, lead congregational singing and support the worship service with appropriate musical offerings.

Time Requirement: We expect 6 hours of commitment per week; a minimum one- hour rehearsal with the choir during the week (daylight hours), and one Sunday choral service including a prelude and a postlude.  The balance of the time will be for music selection, meetings with the Priest, and practice.

  1. Organ: Roland C-380
  2. Keyboard: Roland electric

Qualifications: 

Education: Degree in music or related field, or related work experience.

Experience: Working knowledge of Anglican worship practices or similar.

Skills: Exceptional music skills, demonstrated on the organ and/or keyboard.

Communication: Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills.

Requirements for the Organist/ Choir Director:

  1. Must be reliable and committed to building the music program within the Anglican/Episcopal tradition.
  2. Must be able to play and direct music within the service for seamless worship.
  3. Must have knowledge and skill in the execution of hymnody, service music, anthems, and solos.
  4. Must be able to select and teach hymns, service music, and anthems using accepted choral directing practices.
  5. Must be able to work under the direction of the Priest and with other clergy, choir members, the parish coordinator, and the Parish Council.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the music ministry at Sunday Choral Eucharist and Holy Day services.
  2. Schedule and lead all choir rehearsals.
  3. Nurture the choir and train new members.
  4. Meet regularly with the Priest to evaluate and choose music suitable for the church and choir.
  5. Request to purchase music for the choir, within the constraints of the budget.
  6. Maintain order in the music library inventory.
  7. Assist with weddings and funerals, with right of refusal and with established fees.

Terms and Conditions

  1. This position reports to the Priest at Holy Trinity.
  2. Any offer of employment will be conditional upon a satisfactory background check, obtained through the process approved by the diocese.
  3. The initial offer of employment will be for 6 hours per week, and the probational period will be 3 months.
  4. The salary is negotiable, but will fall within general Royal College of Organists guidelines. Additional fees will be paid for weddings and funerals. All remuneration will be subject to withholdings and deductions required by law and Parish policy.
  5. This position will include four weeks paid vacation a year, to be scheduled in consultation with the Priest, but never during festival seasons (Christmas, Holy Week, Easter). A suitable replacement must be scheduled, in consultation with the Priest.
