Thanks to the faithful work of Christopher Page and Liz Vickers from St. Philip’s and many others, there has been (pre-pandemic) a tradition of a Taizé service held here at St. Philip Church on New Year’s Eve, marking the transition from the old year to the new, and the gift of God’s presence with us in time.
Having participated in the past, in this lovely, peaceful, meditative, and musical style of worship, both as a musician, a worship leader, and a worshipper, I am delighted to say that St. Philip’s is pleased to be able to host this once again. We are planning it for 7 pm on New Year’s Eve, and expect it to last less than an hour.
I am writing to you to issue the invitation as widely as possible, for musicians (acoustic) who might form a ‘pick-up’ ensemble, to lead and enhance songs, as well as for a few readers, and some to lead prayers. As I gather responses and have a sense of the cohort of leaders, I will develop an appropriate order of readings and music.
I hope to know by Thursday Dec. 1 who might be joining us with instruments and voices. My plan would be to send out a draft order of service in the first week of December, for leaders to respond to with any further suggestions. Also in that week, knowing that there is indeed a commitment from a leadership group to hold the event, we would begin, each in our own places and with our own networks, to publicize the service, set for 7 pm on New Year’s Eve.
